Life is a dream - The cutting Ball Theater

"Life is a Dream gains a degree of added resonance through the casting of Cutting Ball veteran David Sinaiko as Basilio and his son, Marin Academy junior Asher Sinaiko as Segismundo. The depth of connection, both affectionate and competitive, between king and prince is readily apparent."
– Robert Hurwitt,

San Francisco Chronicle

"Life is a Dream, directed by Paige Rogers and with a new translation from Andrew Saito, is shrouded in intensity."
-Ariana Vargas

Daily Cal

"Director Paige Rogers uses playful staging and a whimsical cast to infuse this traditionally dense and multi-motiffed play with energy, movement and (gasp) fun!
The surprises keep coming as the action unfolds.  If you’ve come to expect brilliance with every role David Sinaiko plays, wait until you see him alongside his show stealing sixteen year old son, Asher.  The younger Sinaiko gives a physical yet nuanced performance…definitely look forward to seeing him again.  The rest of the cast is similarly spot-on as they cavort through this joyful romp of a play with claps, kazoos and all sorts of found rhythms.
Draw your own conclusions about the show’s central themes of predestiny vs. free will as well as the transformative power of dreams, both real and imagined.  Whatever your interpretation, you’ll leave smiling and remembering why you fell in love with live theater in the first place.
